Meadowood Golf Course Open for Play
ST. HELENA, Calif. - October 7, 2015 - Meadowood Napa Valley's Golf Course reopened for play this year after an extensive and lengthy renovation. Meadowood Director of Golf Doug Pike and the resort team worked alongside renowned golf course architect Jim Lipe of Jim Lipe Design for the overall architecture and design, as well as builder Marc Logan of Greenway Golf, to improve the irrigation and drainage systems. As a result of the renovation, the challenging Par 28 course is now rated by the United States Golf Association (USGA) and offers better playing surfaces and conditions ideal for year-round play. Meadowood also welcomed a dedicated Golf Course Superintendent, Dave Camden, to help set and enforce the standard of world-class golf course conditions.
Course Design by Jim Lipe Design
With more than 35 years of experience, including 25 years as a Senior Design Associate for Nicklaus Design, Jim Lipe is world-renowned as one of the premier golf course architects in the industry. Lipe has worked on many high profile PGA Tour and Champions Tour tournament courses including major venues such as Pinehurst #2 and Pebble Beach.
Through Lipe's design vision for Meadowood, the course was sculpted, lifted, rolled and holes framed to combine great imagery with technical skill for players. New putting greens and tee boxes were built and also slightly shifted to help ensure sufficient amounts of sunlight reach vital areas of the course. In addition to improving the beauty of the entire course, Hole 4 now offers a dramatic 60-foot drop and Hole 6 is unique in offering dual greens for ultimate flexibility and challenge for players of all levels.
Course Construction & Project Management, Greenway Golf
Marc Logan and Greenway Golf practice green, eco-friendly environmental management. Logan, an Aussie native, has developed a reputation as one of the leading experts in the turf industry. He has consulted with nearly 100 golf courses worldwide and was hired to oversee the construction and manage the grow-in of Mayacama Golf Club in Sonoma in 2000.
For Meadowood, Logan and his team repaired and replaced the existing irrigation and storm drain infrastructure with a modern irrigation system for even irrigation of the entire course. The ability to drain unwanted amounts of water from the playing surface allows for year-round play and ensures the overall health and longevity of the course. Logan also replaced all existing grass species with three drought-tolerant species.
